CLIENT: North Herts Homes

The Hartington Place scheme is an innovative Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 residential development comprising 60 dwellings spread over 10 blocks, incorporating mixed tenure houses and apartments.

The site layout is based upon a modern interpretation of Garden City principles including: grouping, vista, closure, accent and landscape with a central green providing communal space.
Key elements include hedges and feature trees with the roads designed as homezones giving the pedestrian priority over the car.

Building design is a contemporary interpretation of the surrounding context based upon a simple set of components and materials used in different combinations to create interest and coherence throughout the scheme.
Each block has it’s own design and identity, avoiding the ‘mass produced’ development model, giving the development a unique and bespoke feel.

Renewable energy sourcesincluding air source heat pumps, solar hot water and photovoltaic panels were used throughout the development, whilst innovative construction materials including timber frame with Hemcrete and NBT Diffutherm /Pavatherm were used creating a low energy/low carbon development.
