RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS / Lakefields Estate, Wolverhampton
CLIENT: Wolverhampton City
CONSTRUCTION VALUE: £16m
A strategy was prepared for Wolverhampton City Council for the sustainable refurbishment of their residential towerblock stock plus a costed proposal for the Lakefields Estate.
The proposal addressed various factors of towerblock refurbishment including improved building fabric, building services provision, site based facilities, landscape strategies, streetscape, communal heating facilities and renewable energy provision.
The Lakefields proposal included the overcladding of the three blocks with insulated render and aluminium panels giving the development a clean contemporary appearance.
Further improvements included the enclosing of balconies, the provision of communal areas and facilities to the ground floors of the buildings, the provision of roof gardens to the top of the buildings, a communal facility in a seperate block for the whole estate, re-landscaping plus the provision of a communal biomass boiler system providing cheap heating and hot water.
Little used areas of the site were identified for new build housing provision to contribute towards the cost of the development as a whole.
