CLIENT: North Herts Homes
VALUE: £8.5m

The North Road comprises a 64 unit flagship residential development including mixed tenure houses and apartments, located on a brownfield site in Southend-on-Sea.

The design is crisp and contemporary, creating a strong identity with a simple palette of materials including white render, accent colours, and a green roof.

The massing of the scheme is a response to it’s urban context, a courtyard development ranging from two storeys in relation to adjacent terraces, climbing up to six storeys at the road junction.

Two public spaces are created, a green communal garden of soft landscaping within the sheltered heart of the scheme and a pedestrian ‘place’ of hard landscaping at the junction incorporating the adjacent church an public house.

The environmental performance of the scheme will be Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, with it’s environmental credentials expressed in the form of a biomass boiler, solar panels and wind turbines, creating a highly insulated, low energy, low carbon development.

The proposal is a bright symbol of regeneration for the surrounding area, with a clear identity, and a high level of environmental performance.
